Twins + Cowboy Hats

May 13, 2013

I hope Mother’s Day was everything you hoped it would be this year! This weekend I got to photograph my first set of twins, and I have found yet another incredible mother and married couple that I admire: Julie and Mike. I don’t know how she does it, but Julie has transitioned into a mother of two with grace – and with her hubby Mike by her side, they are a power couple. It has taken me two years to settle into being a mother of two, but Julie has twins W&W and she is in heaven! We did her maternity portraits back in January at their incredible home (that her grandmother grew up in and now she is raising her family in – how cool is that?!). Here are a few of my favorites from that session, then onto the babies!

My best advice to prepare for our session: relax! I set aside a minimum of 2 hours to shoot, which allows time for portraits of everything as well as time to care for your baby – or babies – in this case.

First, we work together to try to get tired baby to sleep. Really sleep…In the meantime, who doesn’t love seeing daddy hold his baby like that???

We don’t need tons of space to shoot, just a couple of spaces that are mostly clutter-free and that have nice, natural light. In this case, Julie and Mike live in this great old house with those tall, tall old windows that let in plenty of gorgeous light.

And there…are the cowboy hats! Found on Etsy, of course!

A couple more of the beautiful Julie and her loves…

And my favorite of the day, a perfect example of this family’s sense of humor! You have to just relax and go with the flow, as a parent, in every situation. Julie and Mike, you rolled with it and you were awesome! W&W are amazing and perfect – and made by you two! Thank you for inviting me into your home, again.
